How to tell if an OPI polish is fake

The Front
Make sure the right font has been used and that it is aligned properly, without being skewed.

The Back
The address of the distribution centre in The Netherlands and the address of OPI in the US. should be on the back of the bottle. Also there are 4 warning signs that always come in the same order (as seen in the pictures) And if you dont see all 4 of the warning signs then you know that you have a fake OPI polish.

The Label
A genuine OPI bottle always has a double label on the bottom of the bottle. The first label has information such as the product name, product code, bar code and the 'Peel Here' suggestion. On the back of this first label you will find the ingredients. The Second label has the product name and code aligned in the center, and no barcode.

Serial Number
Genuine OPI bottle have a serial number engraved, on the side, towards the cap. You can't really see them that well, but they should be there. Now if the serial number is extremely noticable, then you have a fake OPI polish.

Balls
OPI bottles always have two steel balls in the bottle. If there's more or less then you have a fake polish.

So the OPI Shrek Forever After collection came out last month and I wanted 5 out of the 6 polish (I wasn't a fan of light yellowy-green called fiercely fiona). Now I went to my local Trade Secret and got 3 of the colors I wanted but after paying for the polish the casheir dropped my bag and the polishes broke!!! I was able to get 2 of the polish replaced but the 3rd one was sold out so I was given a refund. And I was sad about this because OPI rarely puts out collections that don't have pinks, reds, or wines. Well on Twitter I was tweeting how I was sad that I didnt get one of the colrs I really wanted. well one the the beauty bloggers I follow on twitter and on her blog posted a link to Amazon.com and there were a lot of e-tailer selling OPI at a lower price than the suggested retail price. And I thought I was getting a great deal but that was far from the case....

I ordered the 2 polish that was unablle to get at the beauty supply store and I was happy to see that these polsih were no more then $5 each (reg price is between $8.50 and $9). Well when they came in the mail 2 days later I was excited to get these polishes UNTIL I looked at the bottle. Now I have a few OPI polishes and all of them look the same, but these were different. There was no double label on the bottom of the bottle, there are only 3 warning signs on the back of the bottle, the font was not the same and over sized. And there are no balls in the polish. Well I conacted the seller and was sent an email (email below). Now I called OPI Products Inc. and told them about how the bottles and the missing info and I was informed that OPI has no authorized sellers on Amazon.com and that I had been sold fake OPI. Well you guys know I was pissed off to no end. I mean I don't like getting sold fake items.

So after getting that BS email from Nail Beauty 4U. I called Amazon.com and talked to a really nice CSA who I told what had happen and what I was told by OPI Products Inc. Well the CSA was very undertsanding and filed an A-to-Z guarantee claim. Now I know so of you may be thinking what a dumb thing to get mad at. I mean the polishes were cheaper then the real thing and who cares if it's fake, as long as the color payoff is good. Well let me say this, the color payoff wasnt all that great. Now it's one thing to buy fake brands knowingly and its another to be sold a fake product when you are told that your buying a genuine item is another.

Now after my twiiter rant I was sent an email from a follower explaining the reason why the cheaper e-tailers don’t have OPI any more. Long story short,  e-tailers are not authorized sellers of OPI. And they can’t get any legit OPI products from OPI. So some have gone to buying OPI (or buying fake OPI) the unauthorized way. Now on the real OPI some of these companies file off the OPI Serial Number (this number is crucial to OPI in terms of quality control). And this is very important because if there is any reason OPI has to recall a bottle this serial number is what they would use to let you know to stop using this item and take it back to the store. So what out the serial number you would know there was anything wrong and if you got sick or anything from using this recalled item you would be able to place lawsuit which OPI dose not want or need. So from now on e-tailers will not be selling OPI. Now if you dont mind buying the fake becuase they are cheaper, then go a head (because you know it fake and want a good deal). But if your buying LE collection color online and you it looks off to you 99.999% of the time its fake. Now I want to thank all of you for reading my blog and tweets and putting up with my rants lol So 2 lucky people will win a mini set. All you need to do is be a follower to my twiiter http://twitter.com/proudchapina and my blog. And you must leave a short comment on how you feel about e-tailers selling fake makeup to unknowing buyers. I will leave this giveaway open for one week and will pick the winners using random.com (and please know I will make sure you are a follower of both my blog and twitter).

The launch of Sugarpill Cosmetics was long awaited and well over due!!!! But good thing come to those who wait, and let me tell you the wait was well worth it!!!! Now Sugarpill is the love child of Amy Doan (better known as Shrinkle). Amy is the uniquely beautiful blue hair diva behind the colorful Shrinkle clothing line (which can me found at http://www.etsy.com/shop/shrinkle). After years of seeing a demand for dramatic shades that are long-lasting, bright, and that would remain flawlessly bold after a long night of clubbing or a long day of work well the dream Sugarpill was born. Now Sugarpill is NOT private label makeup (better known as repackage makeup think those paint wheels, quadliest, and single shadows that we all know come from LadyBird). Amy wanted to have full control over the cosmetic"s quality, brand image and products. And in February 2010 Sugarpill was born. Introducing the world to a new line of luxury eyeshadows in unique colors that anyone from the club kids of New York and San Francisco. To the Hip-Hop heads of Los Angeles and club divas of Miami could rock.!! Need more proof??? Google Sugarpill and see the many reviews done by YouTube's makeup gurus, beauty bloggers and the everyday makeup junkie who have nothing but high praise for this exciting new cosmetics line that we all know has a very long future in this makeup game. Wonder what Amy will come out with next??!!?? Guess well just have to wait and see.....

I was so excited when Amy asked me if I wanted to try out her line (I mean its a honor to be asked to review a new line and it's even cooler to be in the company of so many great bloggers and makeup gurus) And the day my post man delivered my box was just like getting an awesome Valentine's Day gift)
